On May 29th, 2014, officers from the Wildomar Police Department responded to William Collier Elementary school on Mayhall Drive in the city of Wildomar to investigate a theft of copper. Officers spoke with school employees, who discovered the theft as they were investigating a leak in a school building. School employees led officers to the roof of the school where they learned the suspects had taken the overflow copper tubing from the air conditioning units. The copper tubing stolen was almost 2,000 feet in length and was believed to have been taken over the Memorial Day weekend.

The estimated cost for installation and repair is approximately $80,000. Metal thefts have become a popular target among thieves in the area due to its recycle value. The Wildomar Police Department is requesting anyone with any information about the theft to contact Detective Cornett at the Lake Elsinore Sheriff Station at 951-245-3343 or at [email protected]
